A Message from our Founder and Chairman – Daniel George
Personally, I found that setting small physical goals and building on each one of them was a powerful way to repair my body and restore my self-confidence.
My first goal was to run 1km. On my first attempt I lasted approximately 200 metres!
Yet within a week I was jogging (slowly) and then completing a circuit in the weights room, followed by riding a bike for an hour. And so on it went, until I was able to return to playing semi-professional basketball six months later.
I acknowledge that not everyone participates in sports or physical activity before a cancer diagnosis, therefore not everyone will use exercise as a form of rehabilitation.
But whatever your background, I encourage you to get moving and build a strong body after treatment.
If you know someone who has had cancer or if you just want to live a healthy life, then I also encourage you to get involved in our sports events.
Through our Everyday Hero page we want to encourage as many people as possible to get involved in a physical event and raise much needed funds for the Still I Rise Foundation at the same time.
As for me? I am going to compete in a triathlon next year and fundraise at the same time. Early in 2015 I will provide further details and maybe you can join me.
I look forward to meeting you at an event soon!
